An East Palatka woman has put her name in next year’s running to serve on the Putnam County School District board.
Jackie Porter submitted her elections paperwork to the Supervisor of Elections Office on Monday, records show.
Porter is seeking the District 3 seat, which board Chairwoman Sandra Gilyard, who was first elected in 2016, currently occupies. As of Tuesday afternoon, Porter is the only District 3 candidate, according to the Elections Office’s website.
Like all school board candidates, Porter will be running as a nonpartisan. If she is the only District 3 candidate after qualifying ends in June 2024, she will automatically be the new District 3 school board member.
If there are two candidates in the primary, the winner of that contest will be the new school board member.
If there are three or more candidates in the race and no one in the primary gets at least 50% of the vote plus one additional vote, the two candidates with the most votes will be on the Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot.
