A Georgetown resident has entered a crowded field in his bid to represent South Putnam County on the Board of County Commissioners.
Shawn Kelly, who is running as a no party affiliation candidate, filed his election paperwork last week, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
Kelly’s competitors for the District 1 board seat are Republicans Douglas Hays, JR Newbold III and Jeovanny Palencia, as well as Democrat Harry L. Banks. Incumbent Bill Pickens, who was first elected in 2016 and won his reelection bid four years later, has announced he would not be seeking a third term.
Because Kelly is running as a no party affiliation candidate, he will not be on the ballot for the Aug. 20 primary. During the Nov. 5 general election, he is slated to face Banks and the winner of the Republican primary.
