Law enforcement officers arrested an Interlachen man after witnesses reported seeing him punch a woman in the head, authorities said.

Anthony Leon Mitchell, 26, has been charged with aggravated battery and kidnapping/false imprisonment of an adult, according to a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The disturbance was reported to authorities at 8:36 a.m. Sunday, and just before deputies arrived, Mitchell ran away, the report states. While Deputy Gavin Ronquille spoke to witnesses and the victim, other deputies located Mitchell on the corner of Trooper and Scott streets, Ronquille stated in his report.

The victim told deputies the dispute began at 5:30 a.m. Sunday when she confronted Mitchell about talking to another woman on the phone, according to the incident report.

Mitchell became “verbally abusive” and began cursing and raising his hands at the woman while he was close to her face, the incident report states.

She raised her own hands to cover her face and head, according to the incident report, and Mitchell began mocking her by saying, “‘Do you think I’m going to hit you? I’m not going to hit you, you dumb w—e.’”

Once she lowered her hands, Mitchell began punching her in the face and other areas of the head, the report states.

“She stated Anthony grabbed her by her hair and threw her out of the house, causing her to hit her side and back on the steps,” Ronquille wrote the incident report. “(The victim) told me once she tried to run away from Anthony and the home, he chased after her, grabbing her by the hair again, dragging her back to the home against her will.”

The woman told Ronquille she eventually ran to a neighboring street, but Mitchell caught up to her, the report states. He continued to punch her in the head and face while she screamed for help, according to the incident report.

However, her screaming got the attention of two brothers who live on Jayne Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Once the brothers came outside to see what was going on, (the victim) advised Anthony then stopped hitting her and fled the scene on foot,” Ronquille wrote.

Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene to treat the victim’s injuries, but she refused to go to a hospital because she did not have a ride home, the report stated.

Mitchell was still in the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday. He received no bond, according to the incident report.
