The town of Interlachen could be starting a new tradition this weekend as leaders will host an inaugural festival Saturday.

The Interlachen Fall Festival will run from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the town caboose, 312 Atlantic Ave. People of all ages are welcome, and there will be events such as a bike race for children at 11 a.m., hayrides, a sack race and at least 50 vendors, Deputy Town Clerk Pam Glover said.

“I hope we have a good turnout,” she said.

The town recently worked to include more money for events in its annual budget, Glover said, adding that Councilwoman Joni Conner has worked for months planning the fall festival. Conner also spearheaded the town’s first chili cookoff, which took place in March.

Four of the fall festival vendors will be food trucks, Glover said. The festival is also scheduled to include a pie contest, which Town Council members will judge, according to a flier posted on Facebook.

There will be prizes for first, second and third place, according to the flier. People who have questions about the pie contest can call Trish Branch at 386-546-9571.

Glover said Wednesday she didn’t know how many people would bring pies because people tend to enter the contest on the day of the event. Pies must be turned in by 11 a.m. at Town Hall, 311 Atlantic Ave., according to the Facebook information.

Steve Branch, a Nashville recording artist from Florida, is scheduled to perform during the festival, Glover said.

The festival will also offer opportunities to adopt a pet, go rock climbing and attend a car show, where Glover has heard up to 30 cars will be featured. Festival attendees can try their hand at pumpkin bowling, which – as it sounds – involves using a pumpkin as a bowling ball.

“We’re going to see how that goes,” Glover said. “If that doesn’t work, I’ve got regular (bowling balls).”
