A Satsuma woman died Saturday afternoon after being struck by a train, authorities reported.

A 24-year-old woman died after colliding with a train just before 5 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release. The crash happened at Doby Street and First Avenue in Satsuma, the agency reported.

FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan confirmed Wednesday that the agency believes the woman purposefully collided with the Amtrak train.

“At this point, we believe that this was an intentional act,” he emailed.

The Amtrak train was traveling from Miami to New York on Saturday when the Satsuma woman trespassed onto the train tracks, emailed Kimberly Woods, a senior public relations manager for Amtrak.

Woods said the crash happened at 4:43 p.m. None of the 173 crew members or passengers received any injuries, she emailed.
