St. Johns Avenue between Benham Street and Moseley Avenue will be closed to through traffic starting Monday.

Palatka’s general services director, Jonathan Griffith, said detours will be set up on the road as the city moves forward with its potable waterline project. He said residents should plan alternate routes because of the closure, which could take about a month.

“Through traffic shouldn’t be coming through there,” Griffith said.

Palatka’s waterline project is nearing its end. Project Manager Marcia Ganoe said last month the city initiative was 84% complete.

Ganoe said at the time the St. Johns Avenue Streetscape project, which will resurface the road and refurbish adjacent areas, may begin as soon as September.
