Local artist Luke Taft has begun working on his sixth mural in downtown Palatka.

His mural, which will depict the Putnam House Hotel, is replacing another Putnam House Hotel mural that fell off the wall.

The mural will be on the 100 block of Second Street, Taft said in a social media post.

The hotel, built in 1885 and razed in 1922, was one of the largest hotels in Palatka at the time and encompassed the block of what is now St. Johns Avenue from Second to Third streets.

“I hope you like my version just as much when it is finished,” Taft said on social media. “I have a couple little secret details and socially significant healthy visual symbolism that I plan on incorporating into the composition – only seen if you pay close attention and take the time to absorb the completed work.”
