15-year-old accused of threats toward school

A 15-year-old girl was arrested by Putnam County Sheriff’s Office detectives Friday and charged with writing and sending threats to kill, which is a second-degree felony.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect is a Putnam EDGE Charter High School student.

A news release from the sheriff’s office said a social media post containing an image of a white male holding a firearm and wearing a mask began circulating on social media among Putnam County students. The social media post reference Palatka High School.

The boy in the photo is in Spartanburg, S.C., and was arrested Thursday.

The news release said at about 1 a.m. detectives identified the 15-year-old Palatka suspect who began referencing Palatka High School on social media with the South Carolina photo.

“In spite of requests by the sheriff’s office, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice declined to detain (the suspect),” the sheriff’s office said.
