Odis Harless

Odis Harless, 75, of Palatka, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, May 20, 2016, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka.

Odis was born in Charleston, W.Va., and lived in Palatka for the past five years, coming from Mansfield, Ohio. He was a retired truck driver and drove professionally for 50 years. He was presented many certificates for his safe driving. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and was serving as Worshipful Master of the Lake Lodge 72 Free and Accepted Masons in Crescent City. He was also a member of the Moslem Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. in Detroit. As a Shriner, he was registered as Pottsie the Clown, and as a clown, he appeared in numerous parades and visited children’s hospitals. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger William Harless and Joseph Wade Harless; a granddaughter, Amanda Warwick; and a sister, Joanne Mischew.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Heath of Palatka; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Denise Harless of Algonac, Mich.; a daughter, Paula Jo Harless of Algonac, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Diane Harless of Bellevue, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harold Spurlock of Huntington, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25  at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka. The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home one hour earlier. The Rev. Jim Price will be officiating, and Masonic Rites will be conducted by Lake Lodge 72 Free and Accepted Masons of Crescent City.
