After sitting in jail for nearly three years, 48-year-old Jimmie E. Keene has yet to be tried for driving the car that killed a female pedestrian on June 5, 2011, according to court papers.

Keene heads to court Monday for scheduling of defense motions, said Assistant State Attorney Ken Janesk.

“He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on defense motions,” Janesk said. “Then he’ll be scheduled for the judge to hear the motions.”

Court officials said the many delays in bringing Keene to trial came about because he continues to change appointed defense attorneys.

According to the Putnam County Jail website, Keene resides in jail in lieu of more than $100,000 bail.

Arrest records disclose that Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Keene on June 6, 2011, for driving the car that killed 62-year-old Linda Bostian and driving away.

Records added that Keene was without a driver’s license at the time. With 29 arrests, Keene’s record stretches back to 1991 and labels him habitual. He was arrested for driving without a license and other crimes including felony DUI and possession of a firearm by a felon through the years.
