Randall Mitchell Jr.

Elder Randall Mitchell Jr., 79, Palm Coast, was born on Oct. 9, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Randall Mitchell Sr. of Bunnell. Randall attended Flagler County Public School. Randall was the founder of New Hope Holiness Church of Christ with his wife, Elder Pauline Mitchell. Randall was employed with the city of Ormond Beach and Volusia Underground Construction for many years.

He leaves to survive: his wife, Elder Pauline Mitchell, children, Alfonso (Denise) Phillips, Dean Mitchell, Gene (Queen) Mitchell, Elizabeth (Robert) Smith, Brenda (Leon) Staggers, Ashley Mitchell, Sharon (Freddie) Shells, Darren (Loretta) Mitchell, Bomie Mitchell, and a host of brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Viewing will be 5–7 p.m. Friday, April 25 at New Hope Holiness Church, Elder Pauline Mitchell, Pastor. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26 at New Hope Holiness Church, Apostle Quinton L. Dames, Eulogist. Burial will commence at Masonic Cemetery, Palm Coast.

Devona P. Rowe

Dr. Devona Powell Rowe, 63, of Palatka, passed away at her home Wednesday, April 23, 2014.

She was a passionate educator, having taught in Putnam County schools for many years, as well as in St. Johns and Duval counties. She earned her undergraduate degree in library science from Florida State University, and remained a lifelong Seminole fan. Devona graduated with a doctorate in education from the University of North Florida in 2001.

She taught AP Psychology and AP World History at Palatka High School, and also worked as a guidance counselor there for several years. Dr. Rowe was proud to have implemented and supervised the teen-parenting program at Palatka High School.

She was formerly a member of the Woman’s Club, and a member of Daughters of the King at St. Marks. Devona was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Powell.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ralph Rowe, of Palatka, her children, Adam Rowe and wife Tori of Palatka, and Reagan Rowe Huddleston of St. Augustine, her mother, Martha Powell of St. Augustine, a sister, Alice Daniels and husband Jay, of St. Augustine, eight grandchildren, Jasmine Rowe, Addison Rowe, Devon Rowe, Leah Rowe, Walker Huddleston, Rowan Huddleston, Nathan Garrett and Jacob Garrett, as well as many other loving family members.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 26 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palatka with Father Bob Marsh officiating.

Miriam Kane Browning, 94, of East Palatka, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at her daughter’s home in St. Augustine following an extended illness.

Will R. “Uncle Bill” Howell, 68, of Palatka, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his residence.
