Wanda Strickland of Believers Worship Center shows some of the prom dresses that will be available free of charge to area girls 5-8 p.m. Saturday at 8736 State Road 21 in Melrose. The giveaway is through Believers Outreach Ministry Blessings and is titled “A Night to Remember.” Strickland is chairwoman of the event. Democratic Women’s Club to meet today

The Putnam County Democratic Women’s Club meets every third Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Tax Deeds Room, 107 S. Sixth St. The next meeting is today.

Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is April 15

The Palatka High School Class of 1994 Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament will be April 15 at the Palatka Golf Club, 1715 Moseley Ave. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. the day of the event with tee-off at 1:15 p.m. A catered dinner will be served after the tournament. Highlights include a fun contest with prizes, a four-person scramble, drawings and door prizes and cash payout. The cost is $75 per player and $100 hole sponsor. Sponsorship packages are available and include first prize,

Barrel Race benefit to help child with cancer

The Palatka Horsemen’s Club will host The Whitlee Mullins Benefit Barrel Race April 22 at 181 Horsemen Club Road. The exhibition will be from 9-11:45 a.m. and the event begins at noon. Whitlee, 2, was diagnosed in early February with a common liver cancer found in children and began chemotherapy treatments within days of her diagnosis. She is the daughter of Kelsee Largacci and Austin Mullins of Palatka. The benefit will include 4-D Barrel Race (70/30 payout), open $2,000 added money, (entry fee $40), Youth $250 added money (Entry fee $20), 3-D Poles (70/30 payout), Jackpot Poles $250 added money (entry fee $20), Cash entry only. The exhibition is $5 at the gate. The processing fee $5 per person. Other highlights include a silent auction, drawing for prizes and dinners available. Benefit Bass Tourney to help Rodeheaver

Rodeheaver Boys Ranch Benefit Bass Tournament will be April 15  at the Riverfront Park. Registration is $120 to participate per teams of two with a grand prize of $6,000 being awarded. All proceeds and sponsorships will go to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, which is a 501(c)(3). The ranch provides a wholesome home environment with a program for social, educational, vocational, and spiritual development for boys who are at-risk or disadvantaged due to poverty, home insecurity, parental death, desertion or divorce. The ranch is licensed by the Florida Association of Christian Child Caring Agencies as a residential child-caring agency.  Sponsorships for the golf tourney are needed or area residents are invited to donate an items for a drawing.
