One of Palatka’s elected leaders has filed his intent to reclaim his seat in the 2024 election.

According to the Supervisor of Elections Office, Will Jones filed his paperwork at the beginning of the month in the hopes of being reelected to the Group 3 seat on the Palatka City Commission.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Jones, who was first elected in 2020, is the only Group 3 candidate, according to the Elections Office’s website.

Like all Palatka City Commission candidates, Jones is running nonpartisan. If he is still the only Group 3 candidate when qualifying ends in June 2024, he will automatically win the election.

If there are only two people in the race after qualifying ends, the two will face off in the Nov. 5, 2024, general election.

If there are three or more Group 3 candidates, they will face off in the primary. If no one receives at least 50% of the vote plus one additional vote, the top two candidates will compete in a runoff in the general election.
