The process continues in Palatka to find a full-time city manager after earlier failed attempts.  City officials hope to receive and review resumes for the Palatka City Manager position by the end of September, interim City Manager Jonathan Griffith said Thursday.

The job is set to be posted this week by Slavin Management Consultants, a firm contracted by the commission to find a new city manager. As of Friday evening, the job still had not been posted on the Slavin website.

The interim manager stated in previous meetings that he did not want to take the full-time position. The new city manager will replace former manager Don Holmes, who officially retired in May.

Griffith told the commission that officials hope to start screening resumes by the first week in October. The commissioners also receive all the resumes to review, unlike the last city manager search. During the last search, city staff examined the resumes and chose the best candidates they believed should move forward in the selection process.

Griffith said city officials plan to mail supplemental questions to potential candidates by the middle of October. He also aims for the commission to meet with city manager candidates by the week of Oct. 23.

“That is tentative, subject to change,” Griffith said Thursday. So, as we start to receive resumes, we’ll keep you updated.

The City Commission decided in March not to choose any of the three candidates they interviewed in February. The selection process had previously been done without the help of a consultant. The commission changed the search process for a city manager in May and hired Slavin at a $23,629 price tag, the Palatka Daily News reported.

"Their guarantee was within two years, if a replacement was not successful, they would do another recruitment at no cost," Griffith told the commission in May.
