A Putnam County official has filed his intent to seek reelection and must defeat his two immediate predecessors on the road to victory.

According to the Supervisor of Elections Office, Paul Adamczyk, the District 5 member of the Board of County Commissioners, entered the race Thursday. Adamczyk is the third person to file their intent to run for the District. 5 commission seat.

One of the candidates is Buddy Goddard, whom Adamczyk replaced after winning the 2020 election. The other District 5 hopeful is Walton Pellicer II, whom Goddard replaced after winning the 2016 election.

All three candidates are running as Republicans, according to the Elections Office website.

If there are only Republican candidates in the District 5 race at the end of next year’s qualifying period, there will be a universal primary contest in which all eligible voters can select a candidate. The winner of the universal primary will be the next commissioner.

If someone who isn’t a Republican qualifies to run, only Republicans can vote in the Republican primary, and the victor will have to win the general election to be the next commissioner.

The general election will be Nov. 5, 2024. More election information can be found at soe.putnam-fl.com.
