Dorian will affect delivery of paper, postal service

Expected high winds and heavy rain creating hazardous conditions are likely to limit deliveries of Tuesday and Wednesday editions of the Palatka Daily News and mail delivery.

The safety of our staff and readers is our primary concern. The Daily News will print editions focused on Hurricane Dorian coverage both days, going to press early to ensure employee well-being.

The newspaper plans to produce an extra edition that will be delivered to shelters in the county and other locations that would be convenient, as conditions allow.

Delivery to subscribers will occur pending U.S. Postal Service closings. Single copy sales stores and boxes will be spotty.

Palatka Postmaster Richard Pasek said the decision about mail delivery will be made from the postal service’s mid-Florida district office in Tampa. When that occurs, the Daily News will push out news stories on its website and Facebook page.

Subscriber service for days the post office does not deliver will occur on the earliest practicable day after mail service resumes. As an example, if there is no mail delivery Wednesday, postal carriers would deliver two days’ worth of mail Thursday, as much as possible.

“The Palatka Daily News will strive, as always, to provide timely and useful information to Putnam County,” Publisher Michael Leonard said.
