The One Book One Putnam season is coming to an end this year without its usual grand finale.

Organizers canceled Thursday’s event because the featured presenter, Dianne Jacoby, became sick, One Book One Putnam Committee Chairman Bob Lee said.

He found out Tuesday she was ill and decided the finale could not go on without her.

“Diane Jacoby is renowned as a wonderful historical dramatist,” Lee said in a text message. “It’s unfortunate that she is unable to participate in this year’s finale due to illness.”

One Book is a countywide reading initiative that encourages local residents to read that year’s selected work and participate in events having to do with the book. This year’s book was “A Land Remembered” by Patrick D. Smith. It was the first novel chosen for One Book when the program began 20 years ago.

Jacoby is a historical reenactor who had planned to help event attendees relive old Florida history given that the novel first takes place in 1858 Florida.

“We will certainly keep her in mind for future OBOP events,” Lee said.
