Repeat candidate files intent to run for sheriff

A Palatka resident is trying for a third time to become Putnam County’s top law enforcement official. 

Edison Edison filed his intent today to run for Putnam County sheriff in the 2024 election cycle, according to Supervisor of Elections Charles Overturf III. 

He unsuccessfully ran for sheriff in 2016, where he received 995 votes, and in 2020, where he received 7,225 votes, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office. 

He filed to run as a no-party affiliated candidate, as he did in 2016 and 2020, records state. Edison is running to take over the position from current Sheriff Gator DeLoach, who won the 2016 and 2020 elections.

As of Thursday evening, no one else had filed to run for sheriff’s, according to the Elections Office’s website. 

Election Day will be Nov. 5, 2024.
