EAST PALATKA – Against a backdrop of pink, purple and green rides soon to be set up, people bustled around the Putnam County Fairgrounds on Monday getting ready for the Putnam County Fair.
A Georgia-Pacific spokesman confirmed a fire began Saturday morning near the facility’s tissue-paper machine, but it did not cause any damage.
A tornado left a path of destruction south of Crescent City on Saturday, damaging several structures but injuring no residents.
An airplane crashed into a Georgia-Pacific retention pond Monday afternoon when the pilot’s engine had “difficulties” while on the way to Palatka Municipal Airport, authorities said.
The shooter, who authorities say launched a string of eight Palatka shootings over two weeks, was arrested Friday.
The final verification of Welaka’s election results Friday did not change the outcomes from voting earlier this week but election officials did disqualify two ballots.
