FloArts inducted into national group

After five years of preparation, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design recently voted to grant the Florida School of the Arts membership.

The school’s associate degree in visual arts, with specializations in graphic design/new media, photography and studio art, will now be included in the association’s prestigious degree listing, along with more than 300 other exemplary art and design colleges located throughout the United States.

“NASAD accreditation sets standards that are adhered to by top-ranked schools of art and design nationwide,” said FloArts Dean Alain Hentschel. “Florida School of the Arts is now among them. It is a proud day for FloArts and St. Johns River State College.”

The rigorous review included off-site and on-site reviews by national association evaluators.

“We were assessed on every aspect of the school from program development to faculty qualifications,” Hentschel said. “This process confirms the incredible team we have at FloArts.”

As stated on its website, the association “establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for art and design and art/design-related disciplines.”

The organization also “provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational and other art/design-related endeavors.”

Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of St. Johns River State College and awards a two-year associate degree. The school is located on the SJR State Palatka campus and serves the entire state of Florida.
