Austin D. Davis

Three-year veteran firefighter, Austin Dwight Davis, 28, of East Palatka, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 30, 2018, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka.

Austin was born in St. Augustine and was a resident of Putnam County for the past 11 years, first living in Palatka and later in East Palatka. He graduated from Palatka High School in 2008. After high school, Austin continued his education with St. Johns River State College, where he received his law enforcement certification. In 2013, Austin started his firefighting career, volunteering with Station 5, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department. This is when he finally found his calling and passion. Austin knew he would dedicate his life to the fire service. He continued to pursue his education at First Coast Technical in St. Augustine, receiving his certification in firefighting and emergency medical technician. After completion of school, Austin was licensed by the state of Florida as a firefighter and EMT. He then began his professional firefighting career in 2015 with the city of Palatka. Austin was a member of Local 2992, Professional Firefighters of Palatka, as well as the Palatka Moose Lodge 184. He attended Southside Baptist Church in Palatka, and outside of work, his priority in life was his focus on family. Austin always strived to be an extraordinary father to his daughter, who he loved and cherished beyond measure. Austin was a loving son, beloved brother, dedicated father and friend to many.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Herbert Lee Lowe; his paternal grandfather, Herbert Eugene Davis; an aunt, Rene Summey; and a cousin, Scotty Greene.

Surviving are his daughter, Eleanor Belle Davis of Green Cove Springs; parents, Jesse and Lynn Davis of Palatka; a sister, Amy Davis of Palatka; maternal grandmother, Norma Lou Lowe of Palatka; paternal grandmother, Kathleen Keith of Palatka; an aunt, Teresa Greene of Jacksonville; an uncle, Ricky Lowe of Palatka; several cousins; his girlfriend and her daughter, Briane and Riley Lakadawala of East Palatka; and his brothers and sisters in fire service.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6 at 119 St. Johns Terrace in East Palatka. A celebration of Austin’s life will begin 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at 1100 S. 18th St. in the old Beasley Auditorium in Palatka, with Pastor Shaun Thomas officiating.
