Emory L. Roberts
Emory L. Roberts, 81, of Middleburg, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs following a brief illness.
Emory was born in Palatka and was a 1955 graduate of Palatka Senior High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. In 2007, he retired from Florida Times-Union after 47 years of service, where worked as a typesetter and most recently as a supervisor in production. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Middleburg, where he served as a deacon. He was a former member of Midway Baptist Church in Bardin, which his family helped found. He enjoyed woodworking and farming.
Preceding him in death were his parents, B.F. and Gertrude Roberts, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 57-and-a-half years, Voncyle Roberts of Middleburg; two daughters and son-in-law, Melanie Roberts of Middleburg and Michelle and John Youmans of Middleburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Michelle Roberts of Sanford and Daryl and Tracy Roberts of Middleburg; nine grandchildren and spouses, Sabrina and Matt Cole of Middleburg, J.T. and Alex Youmans of Connecticut, Josh Youmans, Jonathan Youmans, Caitlynne Youmans, Brandon Poley, and Daniel Roberts, all of Middleburg, and Lauren Roberts and Heather Roberts, both of Sanford; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at the funeral home with Pastor Ralph Estevez and Pastor Rudy Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Harlem with military honors bestowed by U.S. Air Force.
