James B. Moss Sr.
James B. Moss Sr., 79, a native of Archer who resided in Palatka until his illness, surrendered to the will of God on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at North Florida Rehabilitation and Specialty Care in Gainesville.
He received his formal education in the Alachua County public school system and was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1959. James was a retired corrections officer.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Reginald B. Mosley Sr., of Eastman, Ga., and James B. (Debra) Moss Jr. of Gainesville; daughter, Deborah N. Moss of Gainesville; brothers, Jimmy Lee Allen of Thomasville, Ga., and Tommy Lee Allen of Sarasota; sisters, Joyce Simmons and Laverne Allen, both of St. Petersburg; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; relatives; and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Moss will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, St. Peter Baptist Church, 17026 SW 83rd Ave. in Archer, the Rev. Dwayne McBride, pastor, Apostle Calvin E. Manker, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Archer under the care of Chestnut Funeral Home, 18 NW Eighth Ave. in Gainesville.
Visitation is 2–7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Chestnut Memorial Chapel and Saturday at the church one hour before the service.
Family members are asked to meet at the church at 10:30 a.m.
