Joyce W. Baker
Joyce Willis Baker, 77, of East Palatka, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following a brief illness.
Joyce was a resident of East Palatka for 10 years, coming from Dallas, N.C. She was a graduate of Mt. Holly High School in Mt. Holly, N.C. She retired in 2002 from Gaston Memorial Hospital after 20-plus years in food service. She served as a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 59 in Mt. Holly, N.C., and was also a former member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Mt. Holly, N.C. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeGrand Baker; a sister, Elaine McCoy; and a brother, James Willis.
Surviving are two sons, U.S. Army National Guard (Ret.) Sgt. Bethea Baker of Dallas, N.C., and Mark Baker of Satsuma; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Rodney Austin of East Palatka; two brothers, Henry Willis of Gastonia, N.C., and Roger Willis of Monroe, N.C.; three sisters, Lora Lee Caldwell of Gastonia, N.C., Helen Rhodes of Lincolnton, N.C., and Judy Ballard of Satsuma; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren (twins) on the way.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Gaston Memorial Park Chapel in Gastonia, N.C., with Pastor Abott John Kennedy officiating.
