Edith Juanita Key, 86, of East Palatka, passed from this life Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness.
Born in Madison to Leland Grady Moon and Essie Beatrice Walker Moon, she moved to Palatka in 1953 from Madison. Juanita worked as the finance officer with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office from 1963 until her retirement in 1994. During her time as a dedicated and valued employee at the sheriff’s office and in addition to all her many duties, she also served as the sheriff’s office representative on the county’s Insurance Committee and county’s Benefit Fair Committee. Juanita was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Palatka.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Key; a brother, Grover Moon; and a sister, Lillian Williams.
Juanita is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous great- and great-great-nieces and great- and great-great-nephews.
Services celebrating Juanita’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Brad Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m.
