Beatrice Laverne Wing, 81, of Satsuma, transitioned from this life on Monday, June 3, 2019, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.
Born in Hazlehurst, Ga., to Jessie Bazemore and Eva Ritter Bazemore, she moved to Putnam County in 1997 from Gillisonville, S.C. Laverne had worked with the State of South Carolina as a Certified Nursing Assistant, but her most rewarding work was as homemaker to her family and being a supportive wife to her husband Bill’s pastoral duties as he served at Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church in San Mateo and numerous churches over the years. She was the epitome of a role model as a pastor’s wife as she cared and nurtured not only her own husband and family but likewise saw it as her ministry to help others they encountered. Time after time, Laverne could be found cooking meals for others she saw had need or would buy meals for complete strangers who appeared to be in need. Laverne was not only Bill’s helpmeet in the Lord’s work, she was his best friend and absolutely the love of his life.
Laverne’s spirit of love and devotion in service to her master and others will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched over the years.
She will also be remembered for her love of flowers. Following Bill’s time as pastor at Dunn’s Creek Baptist, Laverne and Bill worshipped and continued serving the Lord at Peniel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Diane Wing; and a sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Walters.
Laverne is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William H. “Bill” Wing of Satsuma; 2 sons, Daniel Harold Wing (Lisa) of Shawnee, OH and Michael Wing of Satsuma; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Walters of Savannah, GA; 3 grandchildren, Mandy Morris, Daniel H. Wing, Jr. (Diane) and Kimberly Wing, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Laverne’s life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Peniel Baptist Church with Pastor Benny Reynolds and Brother Dannie Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at Peniel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 4 p.m.
