Melvin A. Cumbus
Melvin A. Cumbus, 74, of Florahome went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs following an extended illness.
Melvin was born in Jacksonville and had been an off and on resident of Florahome for 27 years, coming from Jacksonville. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. He had worked as a commercial fisherman off the coast of Rhode Island and had later worked as a Master Maine Guide. He was a member of Paran Baptist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, people, and story telling. In his later years he also enjoyed repairing boats and motors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Rosalee Cumbus; a brother, Windle Cumbus; a sister, Patricia Moore; and his wife and the mother of his children, Linda Garzillo.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jane Cumbus of Florahome; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Joseph Davis of Trenton, NJ; a son, Kevin Cumbus of Trenton, NJ; a stepson, Douglas Woodmansee of Jewett City, CT; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Kathy Cumbus of Florahome; a sister, Linda Armey of Florahome; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at Masters Funeral Home in Interlachen. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at Paran Baptist Church Cemetery in Melrose with Pastor Charles Litzell and Pastor David Price officiating.
