Miriam Elaine Watson
Miriam Elaine Watson was born on July 10, 1936, in Repton, Ala., the youngest daughter of John Jackson and Carrie Nichols Watson. She grew up in a farming family in Bermuda, Ala.
She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in medical technology. While working at the newly opened UF Teaching Hospital, she met John Edward McKinley in Sunday school. They were married in Gainesville on April 7, 1962. They moved to Palatka in 1968 with their two young daughters, Ann and Amanda. In Palatka, Miriam worked in the laboratory at Putnam Community Hospital, retiring as the lab manager. She was active in St. James United Methodist Church and as a volunteer.
Miriam Watson McKinley passed away in Jacksonville on June 5, 2019, with her daughter, Amanda, by her side. She is survived by her daughters, Amanda McKinley (John Witoshynsky), of Hollywood, Fla., and Ann McKinley, of Elkton, Fla.; her grandchildren, Sam and Caroline Haarman and Clark and Carina Witoshynsky; her brother, Theo Watson of Semmes, Ala.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Dorothy Burt; and her brothers, John T. Watson and Kenneth Watson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church in Palatka. Interment will be in Bermuda, Ala., at a later date. Memorials are preferred to St. James United Methodist Church.
