Myrtie Osteen, 93, of Hollister went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Kiva Assisted Living in Palatka following an extended illness.
Myrtie was a native and lifelong resident of Hollister. She was a descendant of the Osteen family, a pioneer Putnam County family that settled in Hollister before the Civil War. In her earlier days, she helped her husband with their ranch in Hollister with cattle, chickens and farming. She enjoyed tending to her yard and also dancing. She made sure all of her children were in church. Her family was her whole world. She was a member of the Dunham Woods Baptist Church in Hollister.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Lloyd Osteen Sr.; her parents, Lewis and Versie Minton Osteen; a brother, Fessor Osteen; and four sisters, Eva Mae Chesser, Edith Nicholson, Irma Wilkinson and Tottie Mills.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Daniel Gornto of Hollister, Phyllis Cason of Hollister and Carolyn and Dale Rogers of Hollister; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. L.D. and Brenda Osteen of Hollister; a special son, Odell Coulliette of Hollister; a sister, Virginia Mitchell of Palatka; six grandchildren and spouses, Toya and Red Woodard, Grady III and Tina Jackson, Lorne Jackson, Chad Cannon, Krissi and Jay Smith, and Travis and Tori Osteen; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will begin receiving friends 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Dunham Woods Baptist Church in Hollister. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the church with Chaplain Jakie Carmicle, the Rev. L.D. Osteen and the Rev. Dale Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hollister Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Litzell officiating.
