Paul Shamblin

Paul Bear Joseph Shamblin, 16, of Pomona Park, passed from this life Tuesday, July 9, 2019, from injuries received in a bicycle accident. 

Born in Gainesville, he lived in Pomona Park for the past two months. He had previously resided in Ocala, Lake City and in Transylvania County, N.C. He attended the First Baptist Church of Pomona Park. Paul didn’t know a stranger and loved helping his neighbors take care of their dogs and mowing their grass. He also enjoyed collecting cans for recycling. Paul was well-known in the Pomona Park area for his love of riding his bicycle. 

Paul is survived by his mother, Amy Moore (Rob) of Pomona Park; his father, Kris Brian Shamblin of Ocala; his siblings, Kristian Sherlin of Canton, N.C., Veronica Shamblin of Pomona Park and Audrey Shamblin and Leo Ben Shamblin, both of Ocala; his paternal grandmother, Karen Barber of Lake Toxaway, N.C.; his maternal grandparents, Don and Grace Bakos of Cedar Rapids, Mich., David Batchelder of Wyoming, Mich., and Kim Nelson of Wyoming, Mich.; an aunt, Shari Chapman (Steve) of Lake Toxaway, N.C.; uncle, Anthony Bakos (Darcy Hall) of Pittsburgh, Penn.; nephew, Xander Sherlin of Canton, N.C.; and numerous cousins.

Services celebrating Paul’s life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2019, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka with Father Ron Camarda and Pastor Gary Munson officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent in Paul’s honor to Camp I Am Special, 235 Marywood Drive, St. Johns, FL, 32259.

The family encourages all planning to attend Paul’s celebration to come as Paul would, casual, comfortable and as you are.
