Ralph H. Reeves Sr.
Ralph Harold Reeves Sr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Orange Springs on Dec. 16, 2016.
Ralph was born Dec. 26, 1935, in Micanopy to Basil Lester and Valray Athia Reeves. He grew up on a farm in Wacahoota and was the youngest of 13 children. He was a tile setter by trade from the age of 17. He moved his family to Orange Springs in 1970, where he built his own home, as well as the local grocery store and restaurant. He worked for the Putnam County School District for 20 years as a maintenance man and carpentry instructor before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed teaching, helping others, working with his hands and fixing things. He loved to fish, cook and read. Above all, he loved his many friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Harold (Hal) Reeves Jr., and his daughter, Heidi Matheny.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Diane Reeves; his children, Lynn (Jay) Cann of Jacksonville, Gary (Sheila) Reeves of Gainesville and Jason (Mary) Reeves of Gainesville; his 12 grandchildren, Crystal, Travis, Kevin Cann, Rebecca, Sarah, Andrea, Kyle, Kevin Guilbeault, Kerri, Kasey, Hannah and Halle; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cannon, Taz, Toby and Tucker; a sister, Betty Micheletti of Williston; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 23 at First Baptist Church of Interlachen with the Rev. Robert Marsh officiating. Visitation begins 1 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m. There will be an intimate graveside service immediately following at Orange Springs Community Church Cemetery.
