Local golf: Brutal heat doesn't keep golfers off course on Fourth
Miserably hot weather didn’t keep Garry Register from lapping the field at the Municipal Course’s July 4 tournament, or from a strong field taking part at The Oaks Golf Club’s Red White and Blue event.
Played in Independence Day’s stifling heat, Register was firing on all cylinders as the Muni hosted a points game that found the 10 handicapper construct a personal-best one-under par 69. The all-par front nine and one birdie/two bogey back nine was good for plus 13, a cool eight points better than the crowd tied for second spot.

Singleton and Jeff Robertson paired up to shoot 66 to win the scramble, with Bill Bass/Ben Baar placed via blind draw to take second, based on the most putts. Jack Dreesen/Rosemary Dreesen were third as they had the highest score on the par 5s. Taking closest to the pin prizes were Adam LupPlace (No.) 2, Bill Bass (No. 13) and Ben Baar (No. 15).
Shooting plus eight and sharing second spot in the Palatka points game were Wilson Edwards, Dave Perkins and Ray Spofford. Going home with closest to the pin awards were David DeHart (No. 3), Tina Gillman (No. 6), Dave Perkins (No. 12), Jeff Elledge (No. 14) and Ray Spofford (No. 16)…
