Local Golf: Don McNab 4-Ball starts string of PMGA tournament play
The Palatka Men’s Golf Association kicks off its annual run of tournaments this Saturday at the Municipal Course, with the Don McNab 4-Ball stepping to the plate.
PMGA members will pair off with their favorite playing partner in this two-man best ball event, with most participants expected to also be a part of the regular Saturday morning Buck Group game.
Reduced from a 36- to 18-hole competition last year, reigning champs are Paul Flateau/Bill Luke. Cost is $20, which includes skins, a Calcutta and more. For more information, contact the Municipal Course at (386) 329-0141...
Class of ’94 set for Feb. 23 scramble. Former and current Palatka High Panthers are expected to make a strong showing in a couple of weeks, as the Palatka High Class of 1994 hosts its second annual Scholarship Tournament Feb. 23 at the Municipal Course.
Last year’s first-ever fund raiser attracted a field of 15 squads, who helped raise two $1,000 scholarships which were awarded to as many deserving PHS students entering post-secondary education.
Cost is $50 per person, plus regular fees. That gets you lunch, lots of raffle and door prizes, long drive, closest to the pin, hole in one and putting contests.

PMGA workday Sunday. In preparation for next month’s string of Azalea tournaments and other events, Sunday will find the Municipal Course fairways getting some TLC .
Reflecting the high volume of recent play at the track, Palatka Men’s Golf Association members will be on hand filling in the divots throughout Donald Ross’ creation with a sand/seed combo.
Any PMGA member interested in helping out needs to be at the Muni at 8 a.m. The task should be done by 11 a.m., with golf played at noon.

Azaleas mean volunteers needed. The imminent arrival of our Azalea tournaments – the Junior Azalea, Senior Azalea and Florida Azalea Amateur – means Ron Dennis is sending out an SOS for able-bodied folks willing to help pull off these big events.
The long-time honcho for all things related to Azalea volunteers, Dennis is on the lookout for folks willing to serve as practice range chauffeurs, parking attendants, course rangers and everything else in between.

Ladies Day results. After weeks of inclement weather holding them at bay, the Palatka Women’s Golf Association returned to action last Thursday at the MC.
The second round of the Oliver and Vines Eclectic Tournament was played, with Sandy Smith and Bea Roper holding down the first two slots…
South Putnam news. Dottie Sykes, Dan Johnson, Mike Owens and Jerry Peterson shot 32 to win the Feb. 5 scramble at The Oaks Golf Club. Rosemary Dreesen won closest to the pin on No. 2.
The Feb, 8 gathering found Mike Owens, Larry McKenzie and Phil Sykes coming in at 31 to beat a crowded field. Locked in a huge logjam for first in closest to the pin on No. 13 were Bob Stites, Penny Stites, Shirley Carlisle, Curt Freeze, Mike Rutherford and Ken Click.
