Local golf: Palatka Lions host scramble
The gift of good vision for those less fortunate than many of us is the goal of Palatka Lions Club. To further this cause, the Lions are hosting their second annual “Support A Vision” scramble.
This year’s event is set for Saturday, June 8 at the Municipal Course. Cost is $55 with lunch and prizes included. Shotgun goes off at 9:30 a.m. Long drive, putting contest, closest to the pin and prizes for the top three squads is part of the deal.

Summer golf camp at the Muni. It’s all about getting kids involved in the great game of golf, as the Municipal Course again gears up for its annual Summer Junior Golf Camps.
This year’s opening session is not far off – June 10-13 – followed by Camp II on July 15-18. Each session is from 9 a.m. until noon, with eight hours of professional group instruction, use of range balls, one free play day with accompanying adult, a Junior Summer 30-day membership, golf etiquette book, and reduced green fees outside of camp sessions.
Safety rules, etiquette, course management, long game and shot game will be covered.
Cost is $80 per camp participant, with each camp limited to 25 youngsters ranging from ages 5-17.

The Oaks hosting Summer Golf Camps. Palatka area kids aren’t the only up-and-coming golfers who can be introduced to the game the right way, as Fruitland’s s The Oaks Golf Club is also hosting its own junior camps very soon for South Putnam youngsters.
Headed by Ken Click, the camps are set for June 3-7, July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9. Each camp is $50, while participation in two camps is $95, and $140 for all three. The sessions break down as follows: For youngsters ages 10-14 they are 8-10 a.m, while the 15-18 year old sessions will be from 10 a.m. until noon.
Range balls, clubs (if needed) and an end of session tournament are part of the package, as well as instruction in all the basics of the game.

Memorial Day tourney at The Oaks. A wonderful way to enjoy Monday’s Memorial Day holiday is offered at The Oaks, coming in the form of a two-man scramble tournament.

Ladies Day results. The ever popular Bingo, Bango, Bongo was the game of the day last Thursday for the Palatka Women’s Golf Association. Taking the win at the Municipal Course was Sandy Smith, with Joyce Oliver coming in second place. Oliver also won closest to the pin on No. 18….
Twilight Scramble results. Lucas Bennett, Tanner Tipton, Cameron Gwynn, Copeland West and Stephan Bennett carded eight under par to win last Thursday’s Twilight Scramble at the MC. Skins were turned in on Nos. 3, 4 and 7.
