Local Golf: Summertime version of the Superintendent's Revenge on slate
New Year’s Day comes six months early Saturday to the Municipal Course, as a mid-summer version of the Superintendent’s Revenge series is on the slate.
Freezing wind and rain that blew through town on Jan. 1 kept participation to a handful of die-hards, thus the tournament committee of the Palatka Men’s Golf Association correctly theorized a July 14 version of the popular event would be a safe way to avoid a replay.
Cost to play is $50, which gets you crazy pin placements, prizes and lunch. As its New Year’s Day counterpart, the Revenge will be individuals playing for the best net score and net skins.
Everything’s a morning event thanks to Florida heat/afternoon rain, so a call into the pro shop to make an A.M.. tee time is advisable. The pro shop number is (386) 329-0141. …

Memorial Match play moving along. With the two-man Donald Ross Match Play Tournament just starting up, the Memorial Match Play event is getting down to cases.
Both the low and high handicap flights are nearing the finals stages, with Forrest Wells awaiting the outcome of an upcoming match between Copeland West and the winner of Stephen Reece vs. Jim Keeley. Wells comes to this point with wins over Tanner Tipton, Austin Jacobs and Kyle Coleman, while West has prevailed against Reese Symonds and John Skidmore.
The B Flight finds Randy Werkheiser (defeated John Salmons and John Parker) going against Travis Wilkinson (defeated Allen Wells and Garry Register) with that winner pitted against Kyle Coleman (defeated Lucas Bennett, Duane Worgum and Allen Anderson). Coleman’s entry into B Flight was made possible by a couple of last minute cancellations. …
