Palatka anglers capture BASS junior state title

Camren Tueton and Dawson Ettinger of Palatka won the BASS Federation Junior State Team Championship Bass Tournament last Saturday at Welaka City Ramp with a five-fish limit weighing 22.23 pounds, including the big bass of the tournament that tipped the scales at 6.30 pounds.

In a field of five boats and captained by Dave Brafford of Palatka, the win earned Tueton and Ettinger a trip to the BASS Federation Junior World Championship Aug. 8-10 in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Syler Prince and Austin Peters of Palatka were runners-up with 14.50 pounds. Prince was the 2017 BASS Federation Junior World Champion as an individual angler. Prince and Peters were captained by Cliff Prince of Palatka.

Following the tournament the weigh-in ceremonies was hosted by the Shrimps-R-Us restaurant in Welaka, including a dinner for everyone.

Kenny Pagano, youth director for the Bass Capital Bassmasters of Palatka said he had many people to thank.

“I want to thank the City of Welaka, the Mayor Gordon Sands, Shrimps-R-Us restaurant, our sponsors, parents and volunteer boat captains. Their collective efforts helped make this championship a success,” said Pagano.
