Prep roundup: Interlachen finishes fourth in district

Interlachen qualified eight of 12 weightlifters for regional competition en route to a fourth-place team finish in District 9-1A competition Friday at Keystone Heights.

Sean Lugar led the way for the Rams by winning the 199-pound weight class.

Freddy Roempler was third at 119 pounds. Five Rams each placed fifth ¬– Triston Flowers (119), Joseph Jones (139), Nick Gianotti (169), Justin Darcey (183) and Julian Rivera (238). Carlos Barahona was sixth in the unlimited class.

Keystone Heights took the team trophy, followed by North Marion, Gainesville Eastside and IHS. The Rams outscored Gainesville Oak Hall, Bronson and Cedar Kay.

Prep tennis

The Palatka High School tennis teams lost to both Gainesville Eastside High teams in Gainesville , 5-2 on the girls’ side, while losing 7-0 on the boys’ side.

Gaining victories for the Panther girls were Emma Coyle at third singles and Alexyss Taylor at fifth singles. Six of the seven boys matches ended in 8-0 losses. The only match the Panthers got points in was an 8-3 second doubles loss by Parker Wright and T.J. Davis.

Both Palatka teams slipped to 1-5 with the losses.
