Prep roundup: Interlachen runs win streak to seven
Interlachen survived the loss of three players who fouled out in the fourth quarter and went on to its seventh straight win, 42-35, at Hawthorne Wednesday night.
Malea Brown scored a game-high 16 points for the Rams, who take a 7-1 overall and 3-0 district record into Friday night’s District 4-5A showdown at home against Newberry (9-2, 4-0).
“Newberry’s doing well. It’s going to be a battle Friday,” said IHS coach Michael Stevens. “We basically took the lead (over Hawthorne) and never gave it up. We had three foul out in fourth and still won the quarter.”
Kierra Chauncey gave Interlachen eight points. Reva Godbolt and Angie Mathews scored six apiece.
n Pablo Lorenzo Casanova scored with 10 minutes left in the match and the Palatka High School boys soccer team held on for a 1-0 District 4-3A triumph over Clay to end a five-game losing streak.
Casanova’s ninth goal of the year came from in close with Caleb Herrington providing his seventh assist of the season. Keonte Shack stopped five shots to earn his first shutout of the season.
The Panthers (5-7) will host Crescent City (6-4) tonight.
