Prep roundup: Panthers roll over Bradford

Tyrius Thomas and Cameron Chandler each hit four three-pointers and the Palatka boys basketball team used a big second quarter to beat Bradford 65-48 in a Saturday night road game.

It was the Panthers’ fourth game in five days – a good comeback from a Friday night loss at St. Augustine, according to PHS coach Bryant Oxendine.

“We played Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday,” he said. “Them coming through that and bouncing back after St. Augustine was good to see.”

Thomas finished with 21 points, hitting all seven of his free-throw attempts. Chandler had 13 points and Demare Purifoy scored 12 points for the Panthers, who take a 14-8 record into tonight’s 6 o’clock St. Johns River Athletic Conference game at home against Bartram Trail.

Palatka was strong again from the free-throw line, a 16-for-22 performance despite one player’s 0-4 showing. The Panthers ked 12-9, 33-19 and 48-35 at the quarter breaks.

Mitchell McKinnon collected eight rebounds and blocked two shots for PHS. Purifoy had seven rebounds and a block. Chamar Dumas came up with six assists and three steals. Thomas made four steals.
