Prep soccer: Santana sparks Raider shutout of Keystone Heights
Rookie of the year honors, if they were handed out in the first few weeks of the 2018-19 Putnam County high school boys soccer season, could easily go to Crescent City High sophomore Calletano Santana.
Santana has provided a spark for the Raiders since the season began and it continued Tuesday night at Wisnoski Field at Wiltcher Stadium.
Santana scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Raiders to a 4-0 District 5-2A shutout over Keystone Heights to remain unbeaten at 3-0 in the district, while improving to 4-2-1 overall.
The goals and assist gave Santana four goals and six assists in the young season, making him Putnam County’s leading scorer at 14 points. Hector Cruz added his third goal of the year and Noe Alberran delivered his first career goal. Christian Lopez, meanwhile, had his first two assists of the year and Mario Ponga put up his fourth assist of the season.
Jose Consuelos (six saves) and Jack Lewondowski (two saves) combined on the shutout. The Raiders travel to Gainesville to face P.K. Yonge on Friday before having their district showdown at defending champion Alachua Santa Fe on Monday night.
n Four first-half goals, including three in the first 20 minutes, led visiting Ponte Vedra to a 6-1 District 4-3A victory over Palatka.
The only goal for the Panthers (1-3, 0-3) was scored by Samuel Santana, his third of the season, with Rudy Sales delivering his third assist of the season. Dalton White gave up the first four goals for the Panthers, stopping five shots, while Mark Mendoza gave up the final two scores and had 10 saves.
n Host Santa Fe jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead, then cruised to an 8-0 District 5-2A win over Interlachen, dropping the Rams to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the district.

n The unbeaten start is over for Crescent City.
Three first-half goals helped host Gainesville P.K. Yonge to a 4-0 District 5-2A victory over the Raiders, handing them their first loss and dropping Crescent City to 5-1-1 overall and 2-1 in district play.
The Blue Wave, who have given up just two goals the entire season, stymied 21-goal scorer Jenny Galvan and held the Raiders overall to just two shots on net. Raiders goalie Liz Consuelos stopped 24 shots. The Raiders don’t have it easy with their next matchup either – they travel to unbeaten Alachua Santa Fe on Thursday night.
The Blue Wave improved to 5-0-1 overall.
