A South Putnam man died early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle car crash along County Road 309, according to authorities.

A 20-year-old Crescent City man was pronounced dead at the scene after his sports utility vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned multiple times, a Florida Highway Patrol incident report states.

The man was driving with a 1-year-old Crescent City girl who received minor injuries, the agency reported.

The report stated that the vehicle had been traveling north at 6 a.m. along County Road 309 at Old Shell Harbor Road in Satsuma. The SUV was making a turn along the right curve of County Road 309 when it crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane, according to FHP.

The vehicle continued to travel left onto the west shoulder’s grassy area, FHP reported. The SUV rotated, struck a utility pole and overturned multiple times, the agency stated. The car came to a final rest on the west side’s grassy shoulder, authorities reported.

The driver had not been wearing a seatbelt but the child was wearing a seatbelt, according to FHP.

The victims’ next of kin have been notified, authorities confirmed.
