Authorities are looking for suspects in the shooting of two men Wednesday night on the north side of Palatka.

A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old man sustained “non-life-threatening gunshot wounds,” according to a press release the Palatka Police Department posted on its Facebook page at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

The shooting occurred at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, the police said. Officers responded to the 1700 block of Washington Street and learned there had been shots fired from different areas on that block, the press release stated.

The victims were taken in personal vehicles to HCA Florida Putnam Hospital in Palatka, authorities said. Officers met the victims at the hospital, the press release stated, and found out one of the men had been shot in the “upper chest area” and the other had a “grazing wound to the back of the head.”

However, information about who shot them and the reason for the violence wasn’t as clear.

“Upon making contact, the individuals at the hospital were unsure who or why someone would want to target them,” the press release stated.

The police department said detectives went to the shooting site and the hospital, and numerous pieces of evidence were collected.

There were reports of a lockdown at the hospital, but the Daily News’ calls and texts to Chief Jason Shaw and Capt. Matt Newcomb were not returned Thursday.

“This is currently an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time,” the police said in the press release.

The police department is encouraging anyone with information regarding the shooting to call Detective Sgt. Colten Lee at 386-329-0115 or CrimeStoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-8477.
