The National Weather Service on Friday issued a freeze advisory for parts of North Florida, including Bostwick and Palatka in Putnam County.

The agency’s advisory states that parts of north Florida are expected to see “sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 possible” and warns that measures should be taken to protect crops and Appropriate action should be taken to protect tender vegetation, pets and people.

“Young children, the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the cold,” according to the freeze watch advisory.

Temperatures tonight in Bostwick are expected to drop into the 30s, with widespread frost, the NWS states.

For those who might find themselves in need of shelter to protect themselves, First Presbyterian Church of Palatka Pastor Cliff Lyda said the church will be opening its doors this evening at 7 p.m. to those in need.

People will be offered a warm place to sleep at the church’s Westminster Hall, 126 S. Second St..
