The first candidate for mayor of Pomona Park has filed his paperwork to run for office.

Anthony Raymond Cuevas III submitted his candidacy documents on April 12, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.

With Mayor Joseph Svingala yet to announce his reelection bid, Cuevas is the only person in the Pomona Park mayor’s race, which is a nonpartisan contest.

According to the elections office, Cuevas has collected the 10 petitions needed to qualify to run. If he is the only candidate in the running when the qualifying period ends in June, he will automatically named the winner.

If there are other candidates, Cuevas will need voters to propel him to victory in the Nov. 5 election.
