Authorities are asking for the community’s help to find a suspect in a shooting that took place Saturday night at a Crescent City gas station.

The shooting took place around 11:55 p.m. at the Kangaroo Express, 519 N. Summit St., according to a Facebook statement from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Agency spokeswoman Allison Waters-Merritt said the victim is a 35-year-old man who was in critical condition Monday but had improved to be in stable condition by Tuesday afternoon.

“We are still looking for the suspect,” she said Monday.

The sheriff’s office had no suspect in custody by Tuesday, Waters-Merritt said. The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are pursuing tips from inside and outside of Putnam County, the sheriff’s office said.

People who have any information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-8477 or the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at 386-329-0800.

The Crime Stoppers line is an anonymous line, Waters-Merritt said, but the sheriff’s office’s report line is not anonymous.
