Palatka’s staple Memorial Day weekend festival is back with headliners like Sugarhill Gang and the Ying Yang Twins.

This year’s Blue Crab Festival takes place May 26-28 at the Palatka riverfront. Concerts are free all weekend long, organizer Jeanetta Salyer said, and people can grab VIP tickets online to meet some of the headliners. VIP tickets go on sale Wednesday, she added.

The Blue Crab beats start Friday night at 6 p.m. with Grandpa’s Cough Medicine. Jacksonville rock band Molly Hatchet kicks off the headliners with a final Friday night performance.

Molly Hatchet is most known for their 1979 hit “Flirtin’ with Disaster” and their 1978 song “Dreams I’ll Never See.”

Begin Saturday morning with Pak’s Karate at 11 a.m. and stick around for the Blue Crab beauty pageant winner announcement at 11:45 a.m. Salyer’s band Ramona + the Riot performs at 8:25 p.m. and rap duo Ying Yang Twins will close Saturday night.

The Ying Yang Twins might sound familiar to those who grew up in the 2000s. The duo is best known for their hits “Salt Shaker,” “Wait (The Whisper Song)” and “Say I Yi Yi.”

The festival’s final day is “Local’s Day.” Organizers took to social media Thursday and challenged people to tag their favorite local bands. Organizers said the top two tagged bands would get the opportunity to play on Blue Crab’s main stage starting at 2:05 p.m.

The party keeps going into the night with Jacksonville Jaguar safety Andre Cisco and his new music project, Deeski Montana & Friends, at 7 p.m.

The Jaguars’ D-Line will continue after Cisco and Sugarhill Gang, most known for their 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” closes the festival Sunday night.

Local live music will be playing all weekend at the festival’s craft beer tent.
