The city manager search is back up for discussion today, resuming two weeks after tense talk about the quality of work a consulting firm has contributed in the candidate search.

At today’s Palatka City Commission meeting, which will take place at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 201 N. Second St., city officials hope to hear from Slavin Management Consultants President Robert Slavin.

His company was hired to help find a city manager, but commissioners expressed their frustration during the Oct. 12 meeting about the way the firm has conducted the search.

They were especially upset neither Slavin himself nor anyone else from the company attended the meeting despite being provided a Zoom link.

Commissioner Justin Campbell said he wanted Slavin to be present at the next meeting, which occurs today.

Mayor Robbi Correa also said also had concerns about Slavin and his company, and she echoed Campbell’s desire to hear from him. She wants to review the city’s contract with the consulting company to see if the city is receiving all the services promised.

However, the agenda did not indicate whether Slavin would be present, whether in person or virtually.

Also during today’s meeting, the City Commission plans to talk about road resurfacing projects.

The county has requested $400,000 for its and the city’s St. Johns Avenue reconstruction project. This money would go toward reconstruction work from Palm Avenue to the railroad tracks.

Commissioners also plan to schedule dates to review the city charter, a feat that could take years to accomplish, given how Welaka residents have been reviewing their city charter for two years.
