Hitchcock’s grocery stores in East Palatka and Interlachen will be offering free meals Saturday to families in need.

The event is part of the 10-store regional chain’s plan to donate 3,000 meals in one day. Hitchcock’s officials said the community gift is in response to the coronavirus crisis.

“We are trying to get ahead of the curve,” said Director of Store Operations Ken Story. “We know this will get worse financially for many people in our communities who may suddenly find themselves without a paycheck and may not have much disposable income to eat.”

The free meals distribution begins at noon in the parking lots of each store.
