A Putnam County Judge is in the running to retain the seat to which she was appointed last year.

Judge Anne Marie Gennusa has filed candidacy paperwork with the Putnam County Supervisor of Elections Office to keep her position as the Group 1 county court judge. According to the Elections Office, Gennusa’s only opponent, as of Thursday evening, is Alex Sharp.

Gennusa was appointed to the bench in 2023 and had her own practice for more than 20 years, according to the 7th Judicial Circuit of Florida. She ran for office in 2020 to be the public defender for the 7th Circuit but lost to Matt Metz, according to election records.

If elected, Gennusa will begin her first full six-year term as a county judge.

Gennusa, Sharp and any potential candidates have until June to qualify to be on the ballot. This year’s primary is Aug. 20, and the general election is Nov. 5.
