FLORAHOME – Motorcyclists wrapped around the pavilion at Palmetto Park on Sunday to grab a glass of lemonade for a good cause.

Brylee Guessford, 7, hosted her lemonade stand to raise money for Kaleb Sheneman, a 12-year-old Melrose Elementary School student who was injured last week when a vehicle struck him.

Her efforts raised $4,178 for Sheneman, Brylee’s mother, Misty Guessford, said.

“Proud and amazed is an understatement,” she said in a statement about her daughter. “The amount of people that showed up (Sunday) for Bry’s lemonade stand to support Kaleb’s family was absolutely out of this world.”

Sheneman’s leg was broken after authorities say a driver sped down Florahome’s Tinsley Road and hit both Kaleb and the family dog. The 12-year-old’s mother said the next thing she saw was her son flying in the air and him landing face-first on the ground.

“I am so thankful that he’s alive,” Kristina Sheneman said last week.

Kaleb still had a high fever Monday but he has been working to move from the hospital bed, which amazes his mom that he can move just a week after the incident.

Kaleb had been playing with a family member’s dog – a Great Dane named Rufus – when the car came down the road. The dog was hit and killed, but Kristina Sheneman said she thinks the dog saved her son’s life.

Kaleb was still recovering in the hospital Monday, but his family said they are forever grateful for the community support.

“We will always remember and be thankful for Brylee Guessford and her family along with our community,” Kristina said in a statement.  “In my eyes, we will pay it forward one day.”

Kaleb requests an Arnold Palmer from Brylee when he gets out of the hospital because he heard her lemonade was the best.

Misty Guessford said she and her family are very thankful for the number of people who showed up Sunday to help raise money.

“We never once thought we would raise this much money,” she said in a statement.

“Bry literally said she wanted to raise at least $600 (but) this girl raised $4,178.46.”
